I wrote one of these blog posts near the beginning of Round 2. It seems like it was forever ago, and I actually lost track of the comic for awhile. Luckily, I rediscovered it just in time to share my predictions for how the quarter-finals of the multiverse tournament will shape up.
First match-up: Frieza versus Goku. Neither of these contestants has exerted themselves in the tournament up to this point (Frieza got two forfeits, while Goku fought a Saiyan from u10 and Android 17), so this fight will be the first time either of them have really accessed their power. Goku has reached SSJ3, but Frieza may very well have mastered the 5th Frost Demon transformation in his timeline. This is unlikely, though, and considering how Frieza's cockiness and anger have been used against him numerous times in the past, my money's on Goku. Besides, if both Vegetto and Goku are knocked out before the semi-finals, I'm calling BS. Either way, this will be a Vegetto vs. Broly-level fight. After that epic bout, we have another match filled with symbolism; Majin Buu versus his reincarnation. This will probably be a text-heavy fight, with Uub weighing in on who he is and how far he's come. If this pattern continues, we'll be seeing Sensei Goku vs student Uub in the semi-finals.
Next up is u18 Vegeta versus u13 Kakkarotto. Vegeta wins - he simply has better self-control compared to the other Goku. It may be a tough fight, but if u13 Vegeta could coral Kakkarot, u18 Vegeta should be more than capable of repeating the feat. Additionally, I predict Kakkarot will not survive the encounter. The final fight on this side of the bracket is Cell versus Tapion, and again I see a very clear winner. I don't think Tapion is strong enough to beat Cell. He may even forfeit before the match - though that would be unusual this far into the tournament.
What do you get when you put twenty-one and eighteen together? XXI, obviously. He beat Vegetto, there's no way Android 18, with her weakened power cells, can stand up to him. On the side, I predict that after she looses this match, she will seek help from either XXI or Android Yamcha. Then there's Zen Buu versus Gotenks...we're going to see another death in the tournament. Easy as that. The only way Trunks and Goten survive is if Buu tries to pull another trick on the Vagra. After that is Bra veruss Cold. I'm going to say the same thing I said last time - it all depends on how well she can control herself. Plus, we're talking about the Frost Demons here - it's entirely possible they might use Bra's anger to remove a strong competitor (though with their internal rivalry and the fact that this plan involves sacrificing the family patriarch, it seems unlikely. Still, covering all angles). The final match-up is Raichi versus Gast. Yeah. I don't know who's going to win - I'm leaning towards Raichi, because, as we saw with Prince Vegeta, he can just keep spawning ghosts until his opponent tires. However Gast Carcohl is a cerebral fighter who excels both at executing his own plans (as in his fight with Cold in his own universe) and at foiling the plans of others (Zen Buu, King Piccolo). This is wait and see territory.
